How to reorder PDF pages

  1. Add your PDF

Drop it above or choose it. Its pages appear as small pictures.

  2. Move the pages

Pick pages, then move them earlier, later, to the start or to the end. On a computer you can also drag them. Or type the order, like 3, 1, 2.

  3. Reorder and download

Save the new file. Your original stays as it was.

What stays and what doesn't

Moving a page changes where it sits and nothing on it. The only things that do not come along are these:

  • page labels

A digital signature is removed, only after you say so: any change to a signed file breaks the signature, so the file is held back until you choose to continue.

Print, copy and edit restrictions are removed, only after you say so: the file is held back until you choose to continue.

When it won't run

Five things stop a run before it writes anything, and each is said on the file's row. A PDF that needs a password asks for it there, and a wrong password is refused with a sentence that says so. A digitally signed PDF is held back until you choose to continue, because reordering it would break the signature. A file that cannot be read is reported as damaged. A job too large for this device says so, and in every case nothing is changed and your original stays as it was.

  • The PDF opens, but its owner has switched off printing, copying or editing. Reordering it would remove those restrictions.Remove the restrictions and continue
  • "five" isn't a page or a range. Try 1-3, 5.
  • "20" matches no page of this PDF.
  • Type the new order, like 3, 1, 2.
  • Pick at least one page.
  • The pages are already in that order. Your file is unchanged.

Reordering PDF pages: what to expect

Each page of the file is shown as a small picture. Pick one or several and move them earlier or later, to the start or to the end, or reverse the order. On a computer a page can also be dragged to its new place. The order you make is written in the box below as page numbers, and you can type it there instead, like 3, 1, 2, or 12-1 to turn the whole file around.

The pages are moved inside the file and not redrawn, so text stays selectable and searchable. Bookmarks, links and form fields follow the pages they belong to. Page labels are the exception: they are ranges by position, such as i, ii, iii, so they cannot follow and are removed, and the line under the result says so.

A page you leave out of a typed order is not in the new file, and a page you type twice is copied; both rewrite the file, and the lines on this page list what that costs. Moving every page once keeps the file as it was. The new file is named after the original with -reordered added, and a file with a digital signature is held back first, because any change breaks the signature.

Questions

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. Your PDFs are processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer, and saved straight from this page. The reading at the top of the page counts every byte sent, and it stays at 0 B.

Can I drag the pages on a phone?

Not by dragging, because a drag on a phone fights with scrolling. Tap a page to pick it, then use Move earlier or Move later.

Do bookmarks and links still work?

Yes, they follow their pages. Page labels do not, and they are removed.

What if the page view does not open?

A very long file, a damaged one or one with a password has no picture view. Type the new order in the box instead.
