How to organize a PDF
Add your PDF
Drop it above or choose it. Drop more PDFs to bring their pages into the same grid.
Arrange the pages
Select pages, then turn, copy, delete or move them. Add a blank page where you need one.
Download the new file
Press Organize PDF and save the result. Your original stays as it was.
What stays and what doesn't
Organizing writes a new file. These are the things that do not come along to it:
- page labels
A digital signature is removed, only after you say so: any change to a signed file breaks the signature, so the file is held back until you choose to continue.
Print, copy and edit restrictions are removed, only after you say so: the file is held back until you choose to continue.
When it won't run
Five things stop a run before it writes anything, and each is said on the file's row. A PDF that needs a password asks for it there, and a wrong password is refused with a sentence that says so. A digitally signed PDF is held back until you choose to continue, because organizing it would break the signature. A file that cannot be read is reported as damaged. A job too large for this device says so, and in every case nothing is changed and your original stays as it was.
- The PDF opens, but its owner has switched off printing, copying or editing. Organizing it would remove those restrictions.Remove the restrictions and continue
- "five" isn't a page or a range. Try 1-3, 5.
- "20" matches no page of this PDF.
- Type the pages you want, like 1-3, 5.
- Pick at least one page.
- The pages are already in that order. Your file is unchanged.
Organizing a PDF: what to expect
The grid shows every page of every file you add. A page you move keeps its content. A page you copy is copied in whole, and a page you delete is gone from the new file, not hidden in it.
The new file is built on the first file you use pages from. Its bookmarks, links and form fields stay with the pages you keep. Pages that come from another file arrive as they look, without that file's bookmarks, links or form fields.
Reorder PDF pages is the smaller job: put the pages you already have in a new order. Organize does that and more, so use it when you also need to add, copy or remove pages.
Page numbers set by page labels no longer fit a file whose pages moved, so they are not kept. The page lists what else is left out before you save.
Questions
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. Your PDFs are processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer, and saved straight from this page. The reading at the top of the page counts every byte sent, and it stays at 0 B.
How do I add pages from another PDF?
Drop the second file on the page. Its pages join the end of the grid, marked with its own letter, and you can drag them anywhere.
What is the difference from reorder?
Reorder only puts the pages you have in a new order. Organize also adds blank pages, copies pages, deletes pages, turns them and takes pages from other files.
Do bookmarks and links survive?
Those on pages you keep stay with them. Those that point at a page you deleted are removed, and so are links on a copied page that point to other pages.
Does a copied page keep its form fields?
It keeps how they look, but it is not part of the form any more.
Does it change the pages themselves?
No. Pages are moved, copied or removed whole, and only the blank pages are new. Nothing on a page is redrawn.
