How to delete pages from a PDF
Add your PDF
Drop it above or choose it.
Pick the pages to delete
Tap them in the page view, or type them like 2, 5-7. Numbers are positions in the file.
Delete and download
The new PDF has only the pages that stay.
What stays and what doesn't
The pages you name are taken out of the file. What belonged only to them goes too, and this is the full list of what changes:
- the PDF/A mark
- XFA form data
- bookmarks of the removed pages
- named destinations of the removed pages
- links to the removed pages
- page labels (from the whole file)
- form fields on the removed pages
- reading-order tags (from the whole file)
- an open action that went to a removed page
A digital signature is removed, only after you say so: any change to a signed file breaks the signature, so the file is held back until you choose to continue.
Print, copy and edit restrictions are removed, only after you say so: the file is held back until you choose to continue.
When it won't run
Five things stop a run before it writes anything, and each is said on the file's row. A PDF that needs a password asks for it there, and a wrong password is refused with a sentence that says so. A digitally signed PDF is held back until you choose to continue, because deleting pages from it would break the signature. A file that cannot be read is reported as damaged. A job too large for this device says so, and in every case nothing is changed and your original stays as it was.
- The PDF opens, but its owner has switched off printing, copying or editing. Deleting pages from it would remove those restrictions.Remove the restrictions and continue
- "five" isn't a page or a range. Try 1-3, 5.
- "20" matches no page of this PDF.
- Type the pages to delete, like 2, 5-7.
- That would delete every page. Leave at least one.
Deleting PDF pages: what to expect
Type the page numbers to remove, like 2, 5-7. The numbers are positions in the file: the first page is 1, whatever number is printed on it. The line under the box says how many pages go and how many stay, before you press Delete pages.
Removed pages are taken out of the file, with the text and pictures on them, rather than covered over, so the new file is not the old one with a hidden layer. What belonged only to those pages goes with them: their bookmarks, links and form fields. Properties and attached files are not tied to a page, so they stay as they are; look at those if they name something private.
You cannot delete every page, so at least one has to stay. A number that matches no page of the file is reported instead of being ignored. The new file is named after the original with -edited added, and the original is never changed.
Questions
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. Your PDFs are processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer, and saved straight from this page. The reading at the top of the page counts every byte sent, and it stays at 0 B.
Are the deleted pages really gone?
Yes. They are taken out of the file, with the text and pictures on them, not just hidden. Bookmarks, links and form fields that belonged to them are removed too. Properties and attached files stay as they are, so check those if they name something sensitive.
Which numbers do I type?
Positions in the file: the first page is 1, whatever number is printed on it.
Can I undo it?
Your original is never changed. Start over and add it again.
What about bookmarks and page labels?
If your file has them, these are removed or left out of the new file: the PDF/A mark, XFA form data, bookmarks of the removed pages, named destinations of the removed pages, links to the removed pages, page labels (from the whole file), form fields on the removed pages, reading-order tags (from the whole file) and an open action that went to a removed page. The row of the result names the ones your file really had.
