How to add text and shapes to a PDF
Add your PDF
Drop it above or choose it.
Add marks
Pick a tool and click the page: text, a shape, a highlight, a drawing or a picture. Drag to move and resize.
Download the edited copy
Press Edit PDF and save the new file. Your original stays as it was.
What stays and what doesn't
What you add becomes part of the page. These are the things that do not come along to the new file:
A digital signature is removed, only after you say so: any change to a signed file breaks the signature, so the file is held back until you choose to continue.
Print, copy and edit restrictions are removed, only after you say so: the file is held back until you choose to continue.
When it won't run
Five things stop a run before it writes anything, and each is said on the file's row. A PDF that needs a password asks for it there, and a wrong password is refused with a sentence that says so. A digitally signed PDF is held back until you choose to continue, because editing it would break the signature. A file that cannot be read is reported as damaged. A job too large for this device says so, and in every case nothing is changed and your original stays as it was.
- The PDF opens, but its owner has switched off printing, copying or editing. Editing it would remove those restrictions.Remove the restrictions and continue
- A whole number of pixels from 1 to 16383.
- That box doesn't fit inside the picture. Check the left, top, width and height.
- That text can't be drawn with the font we have. Use Latin, Cyrillic or Greek letters.
- "five" isn't a page or a range. Try 1-3, 5.
- "20" matches no page of this PDF.
- Type the pages you want, like 1-3, 5.
Editing a PDF: what to expect
This tool adds to a page. It does not change the text that is already in the PDF: there is no way to retype a paragraph that was laid out by another program. To change that text, go back to the document it came from.
White out covers what is under it with a colour. The text under it is still in the file and can be found by a search. To remove it for good, use Redact PDF.
Text you add is drawn in a font that can show it. A character the font lacks is named before saving, and never written as a question mark.
Questions
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. Your PDFs are processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer, and saved straight from this page. The reading at the top of the page counts every byte sent, and it stays at 0 B.
Can I change the existing text?
No. This tool adds marks on top. Existing text stays as it is.
Does white out remove what is under it?
No. It only covers it. Use Redact PDF to remove text for good.
Can I undo a change?
Yes, step by step, before you save.
Which fonts can I use?
A sans, a serif and a mono font. Characters they lack are refused before saving.
