Edit PDF bookmarks, without the upload.
Add, rename, nest, move and remove the bookmarks of a PDF: the list a reader shows beside the pages, so you can jump to a place in the file. Contracts, payslips and ID scans stay on your device.

How to edit the bookmarks of a PDF
Add your PDF
Drop it above or choose it. The bookmarks it already has are shown as a tree.
Edit the list
Add, rename, move and nest bookmarks, and pick the page each one goes to. Everything works from the keyboard too.
Download the new file
Press Save bookmarks. The pages are not touched, and the original stays as it was.
What stays and what doesn't
Only the list of bookmarks changes. These are the things that do not come along to the new file:
A digital signature is removed, only after you say so: any change to a signed file breaks the signature, so the file is held back until you choose to continue.
Print, copy and edit restrictions are removed, only after you say so: the file is held back until you choose to continue.
When it won't run
Five things stop a run before it writes anything, and each is said on the file's row. A PDF that needs a password asks for it there, and a wrong password is refused with a sentence that says so. A digitally signed PDF is held back until you choose to continue, because editing it would break the signature. A file that cannot be read is reported as damaged. A job too large for this device says so, and in every case nothing is changed and your original stays as it was.
- The PDF opens, but its owner has switched off printing, copying or editing. Editing it would remove those restrictions.Remove the restrictions and continue
- A whole number of pixels from 1 to 16383.
- The pages are already in that order. Your file is unchanged.
Editing bookmarks: what to expect
Bookmarks are the list in a reader's side panel. They are not the same as a table of contents printed on a page, and they do not need to match the page numbers printed in a corner: a bookmark goes to a page counted from the start of the file. If the file has printed page numbers, the editor shows them next to the page you pick.
A bookmark that was in the file keeps its colour, its style and where it lands on the page until you change its page. A bookmark you add goes to the top of its page.
Suggest from headings reads the text of every page here, in your browser, and lists the lines set bigger than the text around them. It leaves out headers and footers that repeat on page after page. It is a list to review: nothing is added until you press the button, and you can drop any line first.
To make many bookmarks at once, paste a list with a title and a page on each line. Indent a line to nest it, or number the titles. A table of contents copied out of a document works as it is.
A file that is signed loses its signature when its bookmarks change, and the page asks before it goes on. A file that needs a password is saved with the same password.
Questions
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. Your PDFs are processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer, and saved straight from this page. The reading at the top of the page counts every byte sent, and it stays at 0 B.
What is a bookmark in a PDF?
An entry in the side panel of a reader that jumps to a page. Some readers call the whole list the outline.
Can it make them for me?
It can suggest some from the headings it finds. You see the list first and choose which to keep.
Is the page a bookmark goes to the printed page number?
Not always. A bookmark goes to a page counted from the start of the file. A file with a cover or front matter can print its first chapter on a later page, and the editor shows the printed number when the file has one.
Does it make a table of contents page?
No. It edits the bookmarks in the side panel. A table of contents printed on a page is part of that page and is not changed.
Are the pages changed?
No. The pages, the text and the pictures are as they were.
