About HEIC
HEIC is what iPhones have saved photos as since iOS 11 in 2017. It uses the HEVC video codec to store a photo in roughly half the space of a JPG. Outside Apple's own apps, support is patchy: Windows needs an extension and most websites refuse it.
HEIC does not open in most browsers, on many Windows PCs or in a lot of upload forms. HEIC stores photos in about half the space of JPG.
