About JP2
JPEG 2000 replaces JPEG's blocky compression with wavelets, giving cleaner results at high compression and a true lossless mode. It never displaced JPEG on the web, but libraries and archives, DICOM medical images and cinema distribution use it. Safari is the only major browser that shows it.
JP2 does not open in Chrome, Firefox or most apps. JP2 is accepted by archives, libraries and medical software.
