About BMP
BMP is the plain Windows bitmap: pixels written out with little or no compression. The files are enormous compared with PNG or JPG, but the format is so simple that old software, printers and microcontroller displays still ask for it.
BMP files are uncompressed, so they are many times larger than they need to be. BMP is read by old Windows programs and simple hardware that understand nothing else.
