About PBM
PBM is the black-and-white member of the Netpbm family: every pixel is a single bit, either on or off, with no greys. It suits fax-like scans and bitmaps and was the format other Unix tools used to hand pictures to each other.
PBM holds only black and white and few everyday apps open it. PBM is a minimal one-bit format that any program can read.
