About FF

farbfeld is a deliberately minimal lossless image format: a 16-byte header followed by every pixel as four 16-bit values, red, green, blue and alpha. It does no compression itself and is meant to be compressed externally, for example with bzip2.

farbfeld is uncompressed and almost no everyday app opens it. farbfeld is trivially simple and keeps 16 bits per channel with alpha.
