How to convert HEIC to CUR

  1. Add your HEIC photos

Drop HEIC (HEIF) files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. CUR is already chosen

Press Convert. Open Options first if you want to change the defaults. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the CUR, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Private by construction

The HEIC to CUR converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your photos are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

  • No upload, no queue

Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

HEIC to CUR: what to expect

HEIC does not open in most browsers, on many Windows PCs or in a lot of upload forms. CUR is what Windows needs for a custom mouse pointer. HEIC is at home in saving storage on Apple devices; CUR is the usual choice for mouse pointers on Windows. CUR cannot bring back detail that HEIC compression already removed; it simply stores the result without further loss, in a larger file.

The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can pick which icon sizes go into the file.

Most browsers other than Safari cannot read HEIC themselves, so a HEIC decoder of under 1 MB is downloaded the first time and kept in the browser cache. The picture is fitted into squares of the sizes you pick, 32, 48 and 64 pixels by default; the hotspot, the pixel that points, is the top-left corner, where an arrow's tip sits.

HEIC vs CUR

HEIC

HEIC photo

HEIC is what iPhones have saved photos as since iOS 11 in 2017. It uses the HEVC video codec to store a photo in roughly half the space of a JPG. Outside Apple's own apps, support is patchy: Windows needs an extension and most websites refuse it.

Opens in iPhone, iPad and Mac natively; Windows needs extra codecs; most browsers cannot display it

CUR

Windows cursor

CUR is structured like an ICO icon file with one addition: each image carries a hotspot, the pixel that actually does the pointing. Windows uses it for custom mouse pointers. Cursors are small, typically 32 by 32 pixels.

Opens in Windows, icon and cursor editors, GIMP and IrfanView; not browsers' image viewers

Questions

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The HEIC to CUR conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting HEIC to CUR reduce quality?

No further quality is lost: CUR stores the decoded pixels exactly. It cannot restore what HEIC compression already discarded, and the file will be larger.

Can I convert several HEIC files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert HEIC to CUR on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the HEIC file, press Convert and save the CUR. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Pictures of up to 120 megapixels are accepted (for example 12,000 by 10,000 pixels); a larger one is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
