How to convert WebP to GIF

  1. Add your WebP images

Drop WebP files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. GIF is already chosen

Press Convert. Open Options first if you want to change the defaults. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the GIF, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Private by construction

The WebP to GIF converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your images are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

  • No upload, no queue

Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

WebP to GIF: what to expect

Some forums, signature editors and older chat systems accept GIF and nothing newer. GIF comes at a cost: it is limited to 256 colours per image and has no partial transparency, so gradients band, soft edges turn hard, and the file is usually larger than the WebP it came from. A GIF made this way is a still picture.

The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can resize the result.

If the WebP is animated, only its first frame is converted and the result is a still picture.

WebP vs GIF

WEBP

WebP image

WebP is Google's image format for the web. It is typically a quarter to a third smaller than JPG or PNG at similar quality and supports both transparency and animation. Browsers handle it well; older editors, printers' portals and some messaging apps do not.

GIF image

GIF is a 1987 format that survives because it loops silently everywhere. Each frame can use at most 256 colours, so photos and video look grainy and files are far larger than an equivalent MP4.

Questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The WebP to GIF conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting WebP to GIF reduce quality?

Yes, for photos: GIF holds at most 256 colours, so the picture is reduced to a 256-colour palette and smooth gradients can show bands. Graphics that already use few colours come through unchanged.

Can I convert several WebP files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert WebP to GIF on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the WebP file, press Convert and save the GIF. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Pictures of up to 120 megapixels are accepted (for example 12,000 by 10,000 pixels); a larger one is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
