How to convert HEIC to QOI

  1. Add your HEIC photos

Drop HEIC (HEIF) files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. QOI is already chosen

Press Convert. Open Options first if you want to change the defaults. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the QOI, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Private by construction

The HEIC to QOI converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your photos are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

  • No upload, no queue

Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

HEIC to QOI: what to expect

HEIC does not open in most browsers, on many Windows PCs or in a lot of upload forms. QOI is lossless and extremely quick to read and write. HEIC is at home in saving storage on Apple devices; QOI is the usual choice for game textures and pipelines that need very fast encoding. QOI cannot bring back detail that HEIC compression already removed; it simply stores the result without further loss, in a larger file.

The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can resize the result.

Most browsers other than Safari cannot read HEIC themselves, so a HEIC decoder of under 1 MB is downloaded the first time and kept in the browser cache. QOI stores every pixel and the alpha channel exactly; the encoder is a small WebAssembly module that downloads the first time and is cached.

HEIC vs QOI

HEIC

HEIC photo

HEIC is what iPhones have saved photos as since iOS 11 in 2017. It uses the HEVC video codec to store a photo in roughly half the space of a JPG. Outside Apple's own apps, support is patchy: Windows needs an extension and most websites refuse it.

Opens in iPhone, iPad and Mac natively; Windows needs extra codecs; most browsers cannot display it

QOI

QOI image

QOI is a lossless image format with a specification short enough to read in a few minutes. It compresses far less than PNG but encodes and decodes many times faster, which is why game developers and tool authors like it. Support in everyday apps is thin.

Opens in IrfanView, XnView, many game engines and graphics tools; no browsers or phones

Questions

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The HEIC to QOI conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting HEIC to QOI reduce quality?

No further quality is lost: QOI stores the decoded pixels exactly. It cannot restore what HEIC compression already discarded, and the file will be larger.

Can I convert several HEIC files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert HEIC to QOI on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the HEIC file, press Convert and save the QOI. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Pictures of up to 120 megapixels are accepted (for example 12,000 by 10,000 pixels); a larger one is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
