How to convert JPG to QOI

  1. Add your JPG photos

Drop JPG (JPEG, JFIF) files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. QOI is already chosen

Press Convert. Open Options first if you want to change the defaults. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the QOI, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Private by construction

The JPG to QOI converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your photos are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

  • No upload, no queue

Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

JPG to QOI: what to expect

JPG has no transparency and loses a little detail every time it is saved again. QOI is lossless and extremely quick to read and write. JPG is at home in photos you need to share, upload or print; QOI is the usual choice for game textures and pipelines that need very fast encoding. QOI cannot bring back detail that JPG compression already removed; it simply stores the result without further loss, in a larger file.

The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can resize the result.

QOI stores every pixel and the alpha channel exactly; the encoder is a small WebAssembly module that downloads the first time and is cached.

JPG vs QOI

JPG

JPEG image

JPG (also written JPEG) is the format almost every camera and website uses for photographs. It throws away detail the eye barely notices to keep files small, which is why it suits photos and struggles with sharp text or flat colour.

QOI image

QOI is a lossless image format with a specification short enough to read in a few minutes. It compresses far less than PNG but encodes and decodes many times faster, which is why game developers and tool authors like it. Support in everyday apps is thin.

Opens in IrfanView, XnView, many game engines and graphics tools; no browsers or phones

Questions

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The JPG to QOI conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting JPG to QOI reduce quality?

No further quality is lost: QOI stores the decoded pixels exactly. It cannot restore what JPG compression already discarded, and the file will be larger.

Can I convert several JPG files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert JPG to QOI on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the JPG file, press Convert and save the QOI. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Pictures of up to 120 megapixels are accepted (for example 12,000 by 10,000 pixels); a larger one is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
