People convert JPG to PNG when an app, a game engine, a print-on-demand site or a design tool insists on PNG, or before editing so that repeated saves do not add more JPG artefacts. Two things to know: the PNG will be several times larger, and it cannot recover detail the JPG already discarded. Converting does not make a background transparent either; that needs an editing tool.
The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can resize the result.
Camera metadata such as EXIF and GPS location is not copied into the PNG, and the photo's rotation is applied so it stays upright.
JPG (also written JPEG) is the format almost every camera and website uses for photographs. It throws away detail the eye barely notices to keep files small, which is why it suits photos and struggles with sharp text or flat colour.

No. PNG stores exactly what the JPG contains, artefacts included. It only prevents further loss if the image is edited and saved again.
No. A format change keeps every pixel as it is. Removing a background is an editing step, after which PNG is the right format to save in.

No further quality is lost: PNG stores the decoded pixels exactly. It cannot restore what JPG compression already discarded, and the file will be larger.

Pictures of up to 120 megapixels are accepted (for example 12,000 by 10,000 pixels); a larger one is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
