About INI

An INI file is a text file of key=value lines grouped under [section] headings. Windows used INI files for its settings before the registry, and many programs still do. There is no formal standard, so comment characters, quoting and nesting differ between programs.

INI has no standard and holds no nesting or lists, so programs read it differently. INI is readable by almost any program and easy to edit by hand.
