About ENV
A .env file lists environment variables as NAME=value lines, one per line, so an application can load its settings without hard-coding them. Such files often hold passwords and API keys, so they belong outside version control and should not be shared.
ENV is a flat list of variables with no nesting, and dialects disagree on quoting. ENV is what dotenv-style tools and many deployment systems load.
