Databases, import tools, mailing platforms and scripts want CSV, not a workbook. CSV is plain text with one table in it: formulas are replaced by their calculated values, and formatting, charts and comments do not carry over. A CSV holds a single sheet, which matters for workbooks that have several.
One XLSX can produce several CSV files (one file per sheet); when it does, they are offered together as a ZIP download.
XLSX is Excel's format since Office 2007. A workbook can hold many sheets with formulas, formatting and charts. Programs and scripts usually prefer the same data as CSV or JSON.

Yes. Spreadsheet files up to 150 MB are accepted; a larger file is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
