XLSX is awkward for scripts, databases and import tools that expect plain text. TSV avoids the quoting problems commas cause in CSV. XLSX is at home in spreadsheets with formulas, formatting and several sheets; TSV is the usual choice for tabular data whose values contain commas.

XLSX is Excel's format since Office 2007. A workbook can hold many sheets with formulas, formatting and charts. Programs and scripts usually prefer the same data as CSV or JSON.
