XLSX is awkward for scripts, databases and import tools that expect plain text. FODS is plain XML that scripts and version control can handle. XLSX is at home in spreadsheets with formulas, formatting and several sheets; FODS is the usual choice for spreadsheets kept in version control or processed with XML tools.
Every sheet is kept, under its own name. FODS holds at most 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns per sheet. The spreadsheet is written as a single plain XML file instead of a ZIP package.
XLSX is Excel's format since Office 2007. A workbook can hold many sheets with formulas, formatting and charts. Programs and scripts usually prefer the same data as CSV or JSON.

The values are kept. Anything FODS has no way to express, such as formatting, formulas or nesting, is simplified or left out.

Yes. Spreadsheet files up to 150 MB are accepted; a larger file is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
