XLSX is awkward for scripts, databases and import tools that expect plain text. XLSM keeps a workbook's macros. XLSX is at home in spreadsheets with formulas, formatting and several sheets; XLSM is the usual choice for workbooks that carry VBA macros.
Every sheet is kept, under its own name. XLSM holds at most 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns per sheet. The workbook is saved with the .xlsm extension but contains no macros; nothing is added to it.
XLSX is Excel's format since Office 2007. A workbook can hold many sheets with formulas, formatting and charts. Programs and scripts usually prefer the same data as CSV or JSON.

XLSX converterXLSM is XLSX with a VBA macro project attached. Excel refuses to save macros inside a plain XLSX, so a workbook with macros gets this extension. The cells are stored exactly as in XLSX; the macros are a separate binary part of the package.

Yes. Spreadsheet files up to 150 MB are accepted; a larger file is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
