XLSX is awkward for scripts, databases and import tools that expect plain text. ODS is an open standard that LibreOffice uses natively. XLSX is at home in spreadsheets with formulas, formatting and several sheets; ODS is the usual choice for spreadsheets in open-source office suites.
Every sheet is kept, under its own name. ODS holds at most 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns per sheet.
XLSX is Excel's format since Office 2007. A workbook can hold many sheets with formulas, formatting and charts. Programs and scripts usually prefer the same data as CSV or JSON.
