How to round the corners of an image
Add your picture
Drop it above or choose it. A JPG, PNG or WebP works.
Pick the shape
Choose rounded or a circle. The sketch shows the corners before you save.
Save the PNG
Press Round and download the result.
What stays and what doesn't
The result is a new PNG. These are the things that do not come along to it:
- camera and capture details such as make, model and date taken
- the GPS location
- titles, authors, keywords and comments
- the small preview stored inside the file
- content credentials and edit history (C2PA)
- the embedded colour profile (colours are changed to sRGB first; very saturated colours can look slightly flatter)
- the stored print resolution
- other data stored in or after the picture, such as a motion-photo clip, program-specific blocks or a modification time
When it won't run
Two things stop a run before it writes anything, and each is said on the file's row. A file that cannot be read is reported as damaged, and a picture too large for this device says so, with the limit. In both cases nothing is changed and your original stays as it was. A file in a format the page does not take, such as a GIF, gets a sentence instead of a row.
- The picture is an animation. This tool would keep only the first frame, so it leaves the file alone.
- The picture stores its colours as CMYK. This tool can't change it without altering the colours.
- The picture stores 16 bits per colour. This tool works in 8 bits and would flatten it, so it leaves the file alone.
Rounding a picture: what to expect
The corner size is a share of the shorter side of the picture, so the same setting looks the same on a small picture and on a large one. The largest setting turns a square into a circle and a wide picture into a pill. The edge is smoothed by calculation, one pixel at a time, so it does not depend on your browser.
Circle cuts the largest square from the middle of the picture and rounds it all the way. If your subject is not in the middle, crop the picture first.
The result is always a PNG, because a JPG cannot hold see-through corners. A PNG of a photo is larger than the JPG it came from. If you do not need see-through corners, choose a colour, or use a JPG tool afterwards.
Questions
Are my pictures uploaded?
No. Your pictures are processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer, and saved straight from this page. The reading at the top of the page counts every byte sent, and it stays at 0 B.
Is the picture sent anywhere?
No. It is read and changed on your device, and nothing is uploaded.
Why is the result a PNG?
A PNG holds see-through corners and is saved without losing detail. A JPG cannot hold see-through corners at all.
Can I round only some corners?
Not yet. All four corners get the same size.
Does it keep the camera details and the location?
No. The result is a new file with only the picture in it, so the camera details, the location and the colour profile are left behind.
