How to convert DOCX to PDF

  1. Add your DOCX documents

Drop DOCX (Word) files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. PDF is already chosen

Press Convert and confirm the upload. The file is sent to the ToAny conversion server, converted to PDF and removed afterwards.

  3. Download

Save the PDF, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Honest about uploads

Browsers cannot convert DOCX to PDF reliably, so this pair runs on our server. You are asked before anything is sent, and the page says so plainly.

  • Removed afterwards

The uploaded file and the result are deleted once the conversion has finished. Nobody looks at them and they are not used for anything else.

  • No account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark on the result.

DOCX to PDF: what to expect

A DOCX can look different on every computer because each app lays the text out again with whatever fonts it has. A PDF freezes the layout, which is what you want for a CV, a contract, an invoice or anything going to print.

DOCX vs PDF

DOCX

Word document

DOCX is the format Microsoft Word has saved by default since Office 2007. Inside it is a ZIP archive of XML files describing text, styles and images. Layout can shift between Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice because each lays the text out itself.

PDF document

PDF fixes a document's layout so it looks identical on every screen and printer. That makes it the default for forms, invoices and anything sent to print, and also what makes it awkward to edit.

Questions

Is my DOCX file uploaded?

Yes, for this conversion. Browsers cannot convert DOCX to PDF reliably, so after you confirm, the file is uploaded over an encrypted connection to the ToAny conversion server, converted automatically and deleted once the conversion has finished. Most other conversions on ToAny run in your browser and upload nothing.

Is anything lost when converting DOCX to PDF?

Text is kept. Formatting carries over only as far as PDF supports it.

Can I convert several DOCX files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert DOCX to PDF on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the DOCX file, press Convert and save the PDF. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes. Files sent to the conversion server are capped in size, and the page tells you when a file is too large to upload.
