Choosing an archive format
An archive bundles many files into one. ZIP is the format every computer and phone opens without extra software; 7z compresses tighter; RAR, TAR.GZ and TAR.XZ are what downloads and Linux tools tend to produce. Single files compressed with gzip, XZ or bzip2, disc images such as ISO and DMG, and software packages such as DEB, RPM, APK and JAR can be unpacked too. Converting an archive repackages the files inside without altering them.
Questions
Can I make a RAR file?
No. RAR files can be opened but not created, because the format's licence does not allow writing it. Convert a RAR to ZIP or 7z instead.
Which archive formats can toany convert?
ZIP, 7Z, RAR, TAR, TAR.GZ, GZ, XZ, BZ2, TAR.XZ, TAR.BZ2, TAR.ZST, ZST, TAR.LZMA, TAR.Z, ISO, DMG, WIM, DEB, RPM, CPIO, XAR, CAB, LZH, ARJ, JAR, APK, IPA, XPI and APPX. Each format page lists exactly what it can be converted to and from.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Every archive conversion listed here runs inside your browser. The files stay on your device.
Do I have to pick the input format?
No. toany reads the file's contents to work out what it is, even when the extension is wrong, and then offers the formats it can become.
Can I convert several files at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like, mix types if you want, and download the results one by one or together as a ZIP.
Does it cost anything?
No. There is no account, no email address and no watermark.
