About ISO
An ISO file is a complete copy of the data on a CD or DVD, in the ISO 9660 file system, often with UDF additions for larger discs. Linux installers and many software releases are distributed this way. Windows and macOS can mount an ISO as a virtual disc.
ISO is a whole disc image, large and awkward to take single files from without mounting it. ISO is what disc-burning and virtual machine tools expect.
