RAR needs extra software to open on most computers. 7z usually compresses tighter than ZIP. RAR is at home in opening downloads that arrive as RAR; 7Z is the usual choice for the smallest archives.
A password-protected archive is refused, since its contents cannot be read without the password. RAR can be read but never written, because the format's licence does not allow it; that is why there is no conversion to RAR.
RAR is WinRAR's proprietary archive format. Free tools can extract it, but only licensed software may create one, so the practical move is to repackage its contents as ZIP.

Yes. An archive can be up to 500 MB, unpack to at most 1 GB and hold up to 50,000 files; beyond those limits the page says so. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
