How to convert PAM to PDF

  1. Add your PAM images

Drop PAM files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. PDF is already chosen

Press Convert. Open Options first if you want to change the defaults. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the PDF, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Private by construction

The PAM to PDF converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your images are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

  • No upload, no queue

Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

PAM to PDF: what to expect

PAM is uncompressed and few everyday apps open it. PDF looks the same on every device and keeps several pages in one file. PAM is at home in image-processing pipelines that need an alpha channel; PDF is the usual choice for documents that must look the same everywhere, and printing.

Add several files and you can also combine them into a single PDF. The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can choose the page size.

Pictures with more than 8 bits per channel are reduced to 8 bits when they are decoded. Each picture becomes one page. The page can match the picture's own size or be A4 or US Letter; on paper the sheet turns to suit the picture, which is shrunk to fit inside the margins and never enlarged.

PAM vs PDF

PAM

PAM image

PAM generalises the other Netpbm formats: a small header declares the number of channels and their meaning, so one file can hold greyscale, RGB or RGB with an alpha channel, uncompressed. It is the Netpbm answer to PPM's lack of transparency.

PDF document

PDF fixes a document's layout so it looks identical on every screen and printer. That makes it the default for forms, invoices and anything sent to print, and also what makes it awkward to edit.

Questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The PAM to PDF conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Is anything lost when converting PAM to PDF?

No visible change: the image is placed on a PDF page at its full resolution.

Can I convert several PAM files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP. You can also merge them into a single PDF.

How do I convert PAM to PDF on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the PAM file, press Convert and save the PDF. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Because nothing is uploaded, the practical limit is your device's memory. Very large files can fail on phones with little free memory; a computer copes better.
