XLSB is Excel's compact binary format for very large workbooks. Many tools, scripts and web apps cannot read it, but nearly all read XLSX, which stores the same cells as XML.
Formulas come across as the values they last calculated, and formatting such as colours and column widths is not carried over. Every sheet is kept, under its own name. XLSX holds at most 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns per sheet.
XLSB stores the same workbook as XLSX but in binary records instead of XML, which makes the file smaller and faster to open and save. It is used for huge models and for workbooks that mix a lot of formulas. Few tools outside Office read it.
