How to convert JXL to JPG

  1. Add your JXL images

Drop JXL (JPEG XL) files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. JPG is already chosen

Press Convert. Open Options first if you want to change the defaults. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the JPG, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Private by construction

The JXL to JPG converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your images are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

  • No upload, no queue

Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

JXL to JPG: what to expect

JPEG XL does not open in most browsers or apps yet. JPG opens on every device and is accepted by practically every upload form. JXL is at home in high-quality photo archives; JPG is the usual choice for photos you need to share, upload or print.

JPG has no transparency, so see-through areas of a JXL are filled with a solid colour, white by default; you can change it under Options. JPG holds a single still image, so an animated JXL does not stay animated. The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can set the quality, aim for a target file size and resize the result.

Camera metadata such as EXIF and GPS location is not copied into the JPG, and the photo's rotation is applied so it stays upright.

JXL vs JPG

JXL

JPEG XL image

JPEG XL is the JPEG committee's modern successor to JPG, standardised in 2022. It compresses better than JPG at the same quality and can also store images losslessly. Software support is still limited.

Opens in Safari 17 or later and a handful of image apps; most other browsers do not display it by default

JPEG image

JPG (also written JPEG) is the format almost every camera and website uses for photographs. It throws away detail the eye barely notices to keep files small, which is why it suits photos and struggles with sharp text or flat colour.

Questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The JXL to JPG conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting JXL to JPG reduce quality?

JPG is a lossy format, so a small amount of detail is traded for a smaller file. At the default setting the difference is hard to notice. You can raise or lower the quality under Options.

Can I convert several JXL files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert JXL to JPG on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the JXL file, press Convert and save the JPG. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Pictures of up to 120 megapixels are accepted (for example 12,000 by 10,000 pixels); a larger one is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
