JPEG XL does not open in most browsers or apps yet. PNG keeps every pixel exactly and supports transparent backgrounds. JXL is at home in high-quality photo archives; PNG is the usual choice for screenshots, logos, graphics with text or transparency.
PNG holds a single still image, so an animated JXL does not stay animated. The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can resize the result.
Camera metadata such as EXIF and GPS location is not copied into the PNG, and the photo's rotation is applied so it stays upright.
JPEG XL is the JPEG committee's modern successor to JPG, standardised in 2022. It compresses better than JPG at the same quality and can also store images losslessly. Software support is still limited.

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the JXL file, press Convert and save the PNG. There is nothing to install.
Pictures of up to 120 megapixels are accepted (for example 12,000 by 10,000 pixels); a larger one is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
