JPEG XL is the JPEG committee's modern successor to JPG, standardised in 2022. It compresses better than JPG at the same quality and can also store images losslessly. Software support is still limited.

Yes, for photos: GIF holds at most 256 colours, so the picture is reduced to a 256-colour palette and smooth gradients can show bands. Graphics that already use few colours come through unchanged.

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the JXL file, press Convert and save the GIF. There is nothing to install.
Pictures of up to 120 megapixels are accepted (for example 12,000 by 10,000 pixels); a larger one is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
