How to convert TIFF to ICO

  1. Add your TIFF images

Drop TIFF (TIF) files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. ICO is already chosen

Press Convert. Open Options first if you want to change the defaults. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the ICO, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Private by construction

The TIFF to ICO converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your images are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

  • No upload, no queue

Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

TIFF to ICO: what to expect

TIFF files are large and do not display in most browsers or email clients. ICO holds several sizes in one file, which is what favicons and Windows shortcuts need. TIFF is at home in scans, print production and archiving; ICO is the usual choice for website favicons and Windows app icons.

The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can pick which icon sizes go into the file.

Only the first page of a multi-page TIFF is converted.

TIFF vs ICO

TIFF

TIFF image

TIFF is the workhorse of scanning, publishing and archiving. It keeps full quality, can hold several pages and carries rich metadata, but files are large and browsers other than Safari will not display it.

Opens in Photo editors, scanners and print software; Safari is the only major browser that displays it

ICO

Icon file

An ICO file bundles the same icon at several sizes, such as 16, 32 and 48 pixels, so Windows or a browser can pick the sharpest one. It is still the most compatible way to ship a favicon.

Opens in Windows and every browser (as favicon.ico)

Questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The TIFF to ICO conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting TIFF to ICO reduce quality?

The picture is scaled down: an icon file holds small square copies of it (16, 32, 48 and 256 pixels by default), so anything larger loses detail and a picture that is not square gets empty space around it. Each size is stored without further loss. You can pick the sizes under Options.

Can I convert several TIFF files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert TIFF to ICO on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the TIFF file, press Convert and save the ICO. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Pictures of up to 120 megapixels are accepted (for example 12,000 by 10,000 pixels); a larger one is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
