How to convert ORA to JPG

  1. Add your ORA paintings

Drop ORA (OpenRaster) files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. JPG is already chosen

Press Convert. Open Options first if you want to change the defaults. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the JPG, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Private by construction

The ORA to JPG converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your paintings are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

  • No upload, no queue

Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

ORA to JPG: what to expect

ORA opens in few programs outside open-source painting tools. JPG opens on every device and is accepted by practically every upload form. ORA is at home in exchanging layered artwork between open-source programs; JPG is the usual choice for photos you need to share, upload or print. JPG is lossy, so keep the ORA original if you may need full quality later.

JPG has no transparency, so see-through areas of an ORA are filled with a solid colour, white by default; you can change it under Options. The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can set the quality, aim for a target file size and resize the result.

The picture is the flattened image that the painting program stored in the file, so the layers are not kept and cannot be edited afterwards.

ORA vs JPG

ORA

OpenRaster image

OpenRaster is an open format for layered images. The file is a ZIP holding each layer as a PNG, a small XML description of the stack, a flattened preview and a thumbnail, so any program can unpack it. It exists so artists can move layered work between painting programs.

Opens in Krita, GIMP, MyPaint, Pinta and other open-source painting programs

JPEG image

JPG (also written JPEG) is the format almost every camera and website uses for photographs. It throws away detail the eye barely notices to keep files small, which is why it suits photos and struggles with sharp text or flat colour.

Questions

Are my paintings uploaded anywhere?

No. The ORA to JPG conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting ORA to JPG reduce quality?

JPG is a lossy format, so a small amount of detail is traded for a smaller file. At the default setting the difference is hard to notice. You can raise or lower the quality under Options.

Can I convert several ORA files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert ORA to JPG on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the ORA file, press Convert and save the JPG. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Pictures of up to 120 megapixels are accepted (for example 12,000 by 10,000 pixels); a larger one is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
