How to convert ICNS to PNG

  1. Add your ICNS icons

Drop ICNS files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. PNG is already chosen

Press Convert. Open Options first if you want to change the defaults. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the PNG, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Private by construction

The ICNS to PNG converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your icons are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

  • No upload, no queue

Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

ICNS to PNG: what to expect

An ICNS holds one icon at many sizes for macOS. To reuse the icon in a design, a website or a document you need a normal image, and PNG keeps the transparency and exact pixels.

The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can resize the result.

If the icon file holds several sizes, the largest one is converted.

ICNS vs PNG

ICNS

macOS icon

ICNS is the icon container of macOS. One file holds the same icon at many sizes, from 16 to 1024 pixels including Retina versions, each with transparency. Every Mac app carries one in its bundle.

PNG image

PNG stores every pixel exactly, with optional transparency. It was created as a patent-free replacement for GIF and is the standard for screenshots, logos and interface graphics. Photos saved as PNG are several times larger than the same photo as JPG.

Questions

Are my icons uploaded anywhere?

No. The ICNS to PNG conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting ICNS to PNG reduce quality?

No further quality is lost: PNG stores the decoded pixels exactly. The result is identical in content.

Can I convert several ICNS files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert ICNS to PNG on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the ICNS file, press Convert and save the PNG. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Pictures of up to 120 megapixels are accepted (for example 12,000 by 10,000 pixels); a larger one is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
