FB2 does not open on Kindle or in Apple Books. Plain text opens on every device and is easy to search or paste elsewhere. FB2 is at home in e-books, especially from Russian-language libraries; TXT is the usual choice for notes, logs and text that must be read by anything.
The text encoding named in the file's XML declaration is used. Embedded PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP pictures are kept; links other than web and email addresses are dropped.
FB2 is an XML e-book format that separates a book's structure from its looks: sections, poems, epigraphs and notes are marked up, and the reader decides the layout. Images sit inside the file as base64 text. It is very common in Russian-language libraries.
