  3. Download

Save the GeoJSON, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

TCX to GeoJSON: what to expect

TCX is a fitness-specific format that plain GPS and map tools do not understand. GeoJSON is plain JSON that web maps and GIS software read directly. TCX is at home in workouts with laps, heart rate and cadence; GeoJSON is the usual choice for points, lines and areas on the web.

Every format is read into plain GeoJSON features and written out from there, so coordinates, names and properties carry over wherever the target has a place for them. XML that declares custom entities is refused, and TCX files are parsed without touching the network. Coordinates are written longitude first, then latitude, as GeoJSON requires.

TCX

Garmin TCX activity

TCX is Garmin's XML format for training activities. Besides the GPS track it records laps, heart rate, cadence and calories, which GPX has no standard fields for. Fitness services accept it as an upload.

GeoJSON map data

GeoJSON describes geographic features, points, lines and polygons, with their properties as plain JSON. It is the standard format for web maps. Coordinates are in WGS 84 and written longitude first, then latitude, the reverse of how most people say them.

Opens in QGIS, Leaflet, Mapbox, geojson.io, GitHub's map view and most GIS tools

Questions

Are my activities uploaded anywhere?

No. The TCX to GeoJSON conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Is anything lost when converting TCX to GeoJSON?

The values are kept. Anything GeoJSON has no way to express, such as formatting, formulas or nesting, is simplified or left out.

Can I convert several TCX files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert TCX to GeoJSON on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the TCX file, press Convert and save the GeoJSON. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes. Files up to 150 MB are accepted; a larger file is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
