ODT is unfamiliar to many recipients and does not always open cleanly in Word. RTF opens in nearly every word processor ever made. ODT is at home in documents in open-source office suites; RTF is the usual choice for basic formatted text that must open anywhere.
ODT is the open-standard document format used by LibreOffice Writer and OpenOffice. Word and Google Docs can open it, though complex formatting does not always survive the trip.
