How to convert TXT to RTF

  1. Add your TXT text files

Drop TXT files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. RTF is already chosen

Press Convert. There is nothing else to set. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the RTF, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Private by construction

The TXT to RTF converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your text files are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

  • No upload, no queue

Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

TXT to RTF: what to expect

Plain text has no formatting, headings, links or images. RTF opens in nearly every word processor ever made. TXT is at home in notes, logs and text that must be read by anything; RTF is the usual choice for basic formatted text that must open anywhere.

The RTF is plain ASCII with Unicode escapes, so it survives any code page. Headings carry real heading styles; lists are paragraphs with a typed marker and a hanging indent, not live lists.

TXT vs RTF

TXT

Plain text

A TXT file is characters and nothing else: no fonts, no images, no layout. That makes it the most portable document there is, and the easiest to search, diff or feed into another program.

Opens in Every device and every text editor

RTF

Rich Text document

RTF carries basic formatting such as bold, fonts and simple tables in a plain-text wrapper that nearly every word processor reads. It does not support modern layout features.

Opens in Word, WordPad, TextEdit, LibreOffice and most word processors

Questions

Are my text files uploaded anywhere?

No. The TXT to RTF conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Is anything lost when converting TXT to RTF?

Text is kept. Formatting carries over only as far as RTF supports it.

Can I convert several TXT files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert TXT to RTF on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the TXT file, press Convert and save the RTF. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes. Files up to 150 MB are accepted; a larger one is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
