How to convert ICO to WebP

  1. Add your ICO icons

Drop ICO files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. WebP is already chosen

Press Convert. Open Options first if you want to change the defaults. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the WebP, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Private by construction

The ICO to WebP converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your icons are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

  • No upload, no queue

Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

ICO to WebP: what to expect

ICO is only understood as an icon; editors and websites want an ordinary image. WebP is smaller than JPG or PNG at similar quality and keeps transparency. ICO is at home in website favicons and Windows app icons; WebP is the usual choice for images on websites.

The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can set the quality, aim for a target file size and resize the result.

If the icon file holds several sizes, the largest one is converted. The WebP encoder is a WebAssembly module that downloads the first time you convert to WebP and is cached afterwards.

ICO vs WebP

ICO

Icon file

An ICO file bundles the same icon at several sizes, such as 16, 32 and 48 pixels, so Windows or a browser can pick the sharpest one. It is still the most compatible way to ship a favicon.

Opens in Windows and every browser (as favicon.ico)

WebP image

WebP is Google's image format for the web. It is typically a quarter to a third smaller than JPG or PNG at similar quality and supports both transparency and animation. Browsers handle it well; older editors, printers' portals and some messaging apps do not.

Questions

Are my icons uploaded anywhere?

No. The ICO to WebP conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting ICO to WebP reduce quality?

A little: ToAny writes WebP in its lossy mode, so a small amount of detail is traded for a much smaller file. At the default setting the difference is hard to notice. You can raise the quality under Options; there is no lossless setting.

Can I convert several ICO files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert ICO to WebP on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the ICO file, press Convert and save the WebP. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Pictures of up to 120 megapixels are accepted (for example 12,000 by 10,000 pixels); a larger one is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
