How to convert FLAC to OGG

  1. Add your FLAC audio files

Drop FLAC files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. OGG is already chosen

Press Convert. Open Options first if you want to change the defaults. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the OGG, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Private by construction

The FLAC to OGG converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your audio files are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

  • No upload, no queue

Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

FLAC to OGG: what to expect

FLAC files are large, and Apple Music, many car stereos and older players will not play them. Ogg is open and royalty-free, which game engines and open-source tools favour. FLAC is at home in archiving music at full quality; OGG is the usual choice for royalty-free audio in games and on the web. OGG is lossy, so keep the FLAC original if you may need full quality later.

The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can choose the bitrate and trim the start and end.

The conversion uses your browser's own video and audio codecs (WebCodecs), with hardware acceleration where the device has it; the file is read from disk as it goes and can be up to 2 GB. Where the browser lacks a codec, the page falls back to the compatibility engine. OGG is written at 160 kbps unless you choose another bitrate.

FLAC vs OGG

FLAC

FLAC audio

FLAC compresses audio to roughly half the size of WAV without losing anything, like a ZIP for sound. It is the standard for lossless music collections. Apple's Music app is the notable holdout.

Opens in Android, Windows, VLC, most hi-fi players; Apple Music does not import it

OGG

Ogg audio

Ogg is an open container, most often holding Vorbis audio. Games, Linux software and Wikipedia use it because it is free of patents. Apple's players do not support it natively.

Opens in Chrome, Firefox, Android, VLC; Apple devices need extra software

Questions

Are my audio files uploaded anywhere?

No. The FLAC to OGG conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting FLAC to OGG reduce quality?

OGG is a lossy format, so a small amount of detail is traded for a smaller file. At the default setting the difference is hard to notice. You can choose the bitrate under Options.

Can I convert several FLAC files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert FLAC to OGG on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the FLAC file, press Convert and save the OGG. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes. Files up to 2 GB are accepted. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
