How to convert AIFF to M4R

  1. Add your AIFF audio files

Drop AIFF (AIF) files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. M4R is already chosen

Press Convert. Open Options first if you want to change the defaults. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the M4R, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

AIFF to M4R: what to expect

AIFF files are very large and are not played by many phones or websites. M4R is the only format an iPhone accepts as a custom ringtone. AIFF is at home in audio production on the Mac; M4R is the usual choice for custom iPhone ringtones and alert tones. M4R is lossy, so keep the AIFF original if you may need full quality later.

The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can choose the bitrate and trim the start and end.

This pair uses the compatibility engine, ffmpeg built for the browser, because AIFF is not handled by the browser's built-in codecs. It is a one-off download of about 10 MB that the browser keeps, it is slower than the built-in codecs, and it takes files up to 1 GB. An iPhone ringtone is limited to 40 seconds, so only 40 seconds are kept, from the start point you set under Options (the beginning by default). M4R is written at 192 kbps unless you choose another bitrate.

Questions

Are my audio files uploaded anywhere?

No. The AIFF to M4R conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting AIFF to M4R reduce quality?

M4R is a lossy format, so a small amount of detail is traded for a smaller file. At the default setting the difference is hard to notice. You can choose the bitrate under Options.

Can I convert several AIFF files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert AIFF to M4R on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the AIFF file, press Convert and save the M4R. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes. AIFF to M4R runs on the compatibility engine, which takes files up to 1 GB, and a long clip takes a while because it is slower than the browser's built-in codecs. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
