AFDESIGN to JPG: what to expect

AFDESIGN opens only in Affinity, so a client or a website cannot show it without a converted picture. JPG opens on every device and is accepted by practically every upload form. AFDESIGN is at home in vector illustration, logos and interface design that is still being edited; JPG is the usual choice for photos you need to share, upload or print. JPG is lossy, so keep the AFDESIGN original if you may need full quality later.

JPG has no transparency, so see-through areas of an AFDESIGN are filled with a solid colour, white by default; you can change it under Options. The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can set the quality, aim for a target file size and resize the result.

AFDESIGN is the project file of Affinity Designer, Serif's vector illustration and design app. It holds curves, shapes, text, symbols, artboards and raster layers, so a design can be reopened and changed at any size. ToAny reads the preview picture Affinity saves inside the file, so what you get is Affinity's own render of the document, at the size Affinity stored it (up to about 512 pixels on the long side), not the layers or the full-size artwork.

Are my designs uploaded anywhere?

No. The AFDESIGN to JPG conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting AFDESIGN to JPG reduce quality?

JPG is a lossy format, so a small amount of detail is traded for a smaller file. At the default setting the difference is hard to notice. You can raise or lower the quality under Options.
