How to convert RTF to DOC

  1. Add your RTF documents

Drop RTF files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. DOC is already chosen

Press Convert and confirm the upload. The file is sent to the ToAny conversion server, converted to DOC and removed afterwards.

  3. Download

Save the DOC, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Honest about uploads

Browsers cannot convert RTF to DOC reliably, so this pair runs on our server. You are asked before anything is sent, and the page says so plainly.

  • Removed afterwards

The uploaded file and the result are deleted once the conversion has finished. Nobody looks at them and they are not used for anything else.

  • No account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark on the result.

RTF to DOC: what to expect

RTF supports only basic formatting and produces bulky files. DOC opens in copies of Word older than 2007. RTF is at home in basic formatted text that must open anywhere; DOC is the usual choice for compatibility with very old copies of Word.

RTF vs DOC

RTF

Rich Text document

RTF carries basic formatting such as bold, fonts and simple tables in a plain-text wrapper that nearly every word processor reads. It does not support modern layout features.

Opens in Word, WordPad, TextEdit, LibreOffice and most word processors

DOC

Word 97–2003 document

DOC is the binary format used by Word 97 through Word 2003. Word replaced it with DOCX in 2007, and newer tools increasingly treat DOC as a legacy format.

Opens in Microsoft Word and LibreOffice; newer apps open it with warnings

Questions

Is my RTF file uploaded?

Yes, for this conversion. Browsers cannot convert RTF to DOC reliably, so after you confirm, the file is uploaded over an encrypted connection to the ToAny conversion server, converted automatically and deleted once the conversion has finished. Most other conversions on ToAny run in your browser and upload nothing.

Is anything lost when converting RTF to DOC?

Text is kept. Formatting carries over only as far as DOC supports it.

Can I convert several RTF files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert RTF to DOC on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the RTF file, press Convert and save the DOC. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes. Files sent to the conversion server are capped in size, and the page tells you when a file is too large to upload.
