How to convert EAC3 to FLAC

  1. Add your EAC3 audio files

Drop EAC3 (Dolby Digital Plus, EC3) files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. FLAC is already chosen

Press Convert. Open Options first if you want to change the defaults. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the FLAC, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

EAC3 to FLAC: what to expect

E-AC-3 does not play in most music players or browsers. FLAC keeps full quality at about half the size of WAV. An EAC3 file usually holds Dolby Digital Plus, up to 7.1 channels. EAC3 is at home in surround-sound audio for streaming and Blu-ray; FLAC is the usual choice for archiving music at full quality. FLAC cannot bring back detail that EAC3 compression already removed; it simply stores the result without further loss, in a larger file.

The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can trim the start and end.

This pair uses the compatibility engine, ffmpeg built for the browser, because EAC3 is not handled by the browser's built-in codecs. It is a one-off download of about 10 MB that the browser keeps, it is slower than the built-in codecs, and it takes files up to 1 GB.

EAC3 vs FLAC

EAC3

Dolby Digital Plus audio

E-AC-3, marketed as Dolby Digital Plus, is the successor to AC3. It compresses more efficiently, supports more channels and higher bitrates, and is widely used for streaming video and Blu-ray soundtracks. It is a different, incompatible bitstream, so older AC3-only hardware cannot play it.

Opens in TVs, streaming boxes, home-theatre receivers and VLC; not most phones' music players or browsers

FLAC audio

FLAC compresses audio to roughly half the size of WAV without losing anything, like a ZIP for sound. It is the standard for lossless music collections. Apple's Music app is the notable holdout.

Opens in Android, Windows, VLC, most hi-fi players; Apple Music does not import it

Questions

Are my audio files uploaded anywhere?

No. The EAC3 to FLAC conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting EAC3 to FLAC reduce quality?

No further quality is lost: FLAC stores the decoded audio exactly. It cannot restore what EAC3 compression already discarded, and the file will be larger.

Can I convert several EAC3 files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert EAC3 to FLAC on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the EAC3 file, press Convert and save the FLAC. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes. EAC3 to FLAC runs on the compatibility engine, which takes files up to 1 GB, and a long clip takes a while because it is slower than the browser's built-in codecs. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
