OPUS to AIFF: what to expect

Opus files do not open in many music apps, editors or hardware players. AIFF is uncompressed and native to Mac audio software. OPUS is at home in voice and music at low bitrates; AIFF is the usual choice for audio production on the Mac. AIFF cannot bring back detail that OPUS compression already removed; it simply stores the result without further loss, in a larger file.

The defaults suit most files. Under Options you can trim the start and end.

This pair uses the compatibility engine, ffmpeg built for the browser, because AIFF cannot be written by the browser's built-in codecs. It is a one-off download of about 10 MB that the browser keeps, it is slower than the built-in codecs, and it takes files up to 1 GB.

OPUS vs AIFF

OPUS

Opus audio

Opus is a modern open codec that sounds good at very low bitrates. WhatsApp voice notes, Discord and video calls use it. Standalone .opus files are less widely supported than the codec itself.

Opens in Current browsers, Android, VLC; many music apps and hardware players do not

AIFF audio

AIFF is Apple's counterpart to WAV: uncompressed audio with full quality and large files. Logic and GarageBand use it heavily.

Questions

Are my audio files uploaded anywhere?

No. The OPUS to AIFF conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Does converting OPUS to AIFF reduce quality?

No further quality is lost: AIFF stores the decoded audio exactly. It cannot restore what OPUS compression already discarded, and the file will be larger.

Can I convert several OPUS files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert OPUS to AIFF on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the OPUS file, press Convert and save the AIFF. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes. OPUS to AIFF runs on the compatibility engine, which takes files up to 1 GB, and a long clip takes a while because it is slower than the browser's built-in codecs. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
