How to convert GPX to WKT

  1. Add your GPX tracks

Drop GPX files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.

  2. WKT is already chosen

Press Convert. There is nothing else to set. The work happens in this tab.

  3. Download

Save the WKT, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.

Why ToAny

  • Private by construction

The GPX to WKT converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your tracks are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

  • No upload, no queue

Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.

  • Free, without an account

No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.

GPX to WKT: what to expect

GPX is verbose XML and has no place for extras such as heart rate unless an extension is used. WKT is what spatial databases and GIS libraries accept as text. GPX is at home in GPS tracks, routes and waypoints; WKT is the usual choice for writing a single geometry in a database or script.

Every format is read into plain GeoJSON features and written out from there, so coordinates, names and properties carry over wherever the target has a place for them. XML that declares custom entities is refused, and GPX files are parsed without touching the network. WKT describes shapes only, so names and properties are left out; each feature is written on its own line.

GPX vs WKT

GPX

GPX track file

GPX is the open XML format for GPS data and the common language of hiking, cycling and running apps. It records waypoints, planned routes and recorded tracks with time and elevation. Almost every GPS device and app can import and export it.

Opens in Garmin BaseCamp, Strava, Komoot, Google Earth, QGIS and nearly every GPS app

WKT

Well-known text geometry

WKT writes a geometry as text, for example POINT (30 10) or POLYGON ((30 10, 40 40, 20 40, 10 20, 30 10)). Spatial databases such as PostGIS use it. It describes shape only, without names or other attributes.

Opens in Text editors, PostGIS, QGIS and GIS libraries

Questions

Are my tracks uploaded anywhere?

No. The GPX to WKT conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Is anything lost when converting GPX to WKT?

The values are kept. Anything WKT has no way to express, such as formatting, formulas or nesting, is simplified or left out.

Can I convert several GPX files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert GPX to WKT on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the GPX file, press Convert and save the WKT. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes. Files up to 150 MB are accepted; a larger file is refused with a message. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
