About F4V
F4V is the MPEG-4 based video container Adobe added to Flash Player in 2007 so that sites could serve H.264 instead of the older FLV. Flash itself was retired at the end of 2020, but F4V files from video sites and capture software remain.
F4V comes from the Flash era, and phones, browsers and editors often do not recognise the extension. F4V is what some Flash-era streaming software expects.
