Drawing Exchange Format
DXF was published by Autodesk so that other programs could read AutoCAD drawings. It is a list of numbered codes and values, readable as plain text, and it holds the same kinds of objects as a DWG: lines, arcs, text, dimensions, layers and blocks. Because the format is open and simple, almost every program that deals with drawings can import it, though the finer points of a drawing do not always survive the trip.
Opens in AutoCAD and nearly every other CAD, CAM and laser-cutting program
