WOFF to WOFF2: what to expect

WOFF cannot be installed on most computers, and WOFF2 is smaller. WOFF2 is the smallest web font format that browsers support. WOFF is at home in fonts on web pages, as a fallback for WOFF2; WOFF2 is the usual choice for fonts on web pages.

The outlines and tables of the font are copied unchanged and only the wrapper around them changes, so the letterforms, hinting and layout features are exactly the same. WOFF2 is handled by a WebAssembly module that downloads the first time you compress to WOFF2 and is cached; WOFF2 reorganises the outline tables, so converting back gives the same glyphs but not an identical file. A file that is not a TrueType, OpenType, WOFF, WOFF2 or collection font is refused.

Questions

Are my fonts uploaded anywhere?

No. The WOFF to WOFF2 conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.

Is anything lost when converting WOFF to WOFF2?

No further quality is lost: WOFF2 stores the decoded audio exactly. The result is identical in content.

Can I convert several WOFF files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

How do I convert WOFF to WOFF2 on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android?

The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the WOFF file, press Convert and save the WOFF2. There is nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes. Fonts up to 100 MB are accepted, which covers all but the very largest CJK families. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
